We feature all new businesses in San Miguel de Salinas...it's our small way giving a free 'kick start' for new enterprise projects in the pueblo.
These are the faces of the people that provide your services - New Business? Tell us!

36 Ronda Oeste
San Miguel de Salinas
tel: (+34) 661 533 099

La Tetera Tea Shop opens on The Ronda on Saturday 17th May with The Starlight Dancers performing for all the first guests. Set up and run by friends Jackie and Julia, La Tetera is a little piece of home, and they hope their clients will enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and their wonderful food and drinks. For more information you can visit the La Tetera website.

A new business opens today, Monday 3rd December, Sun Services & Translations. This is an established enterprise that has been successfully resolving the legal needs and concerns of its clients in and around its home base of Ciudad Quesada for almost four years. Well respected in the area, its founder and guiding light, Vivian Van Son, together with her friendly and experienced staff are delighted to be now able to offer their services to the people of San Miguel de Salinas.

Born in Belgium, Vivian taught English in her own country. An accomplished linguist, she speaks fluent English, Spanish, German, French and Dutch. Thoroughly conversant with the ever-changing vagaries of the Spanish legal system, she is definitely the person to have in your corner - – Vivian is a formidable adversary when it comes to a fight!

Vivian Van Son and Ria Brown of SUN SERVICES
The face welcoming you as you step into the new San Miguel office belongs to Ria Brown. Educated in Spain from the age of 10, Ria is equally at home communicating in English and Spanish. She has fronted the Sun Services & Translations office in Quesada since May 2005 and is looking forward to the challenge of being responsible for the new office. The Girl Friday, not to mention Monday through Thursday, of the team is Desiree Sanchez García. Desi has lived in and around our area all her life, and knows exactly who to talk to and what to do when a trip outside the office is required. Speaking English fluently, she studies German in her spare time. Completing the Sun Services team, is Louise Gann, who is the resident (and non-resident) tax expert. Having worked for a leading bank in the UK for most of her career, her knowledge of both tax systems is indispensable. Dealing with Conveyance, Legalization of all building works, Wills, Inheritance and Probate, NIE numbers and Residencia, Medical Cards, Accountancy for self-employed persons and Spanish Companies, resident and non-resident Taxation… as well as all forms of Insurance, Sun Services & Translations aims to offer a complete service to all their clients. They will also undertake to sort out any documentation you may need with Tráfico or the Town Hall / Ayuntamiento.

16th October 2007
Congratulations to Alison Byrne for reaching the finals in 'Start up Success Star'

CoastRider in association with Touchstone Solutions has reached the final three in their category of high achieving women. This is The Company Women of the Year Awards and all the finalists are judged to have made a significant contribution to business on The Costa Blanca - Alison Byrne of Market Street Restaurant is really a 'Start up Success Star'

I only have this picture of Alison but it's quite apt really because she works very hard at the sharp end of the restaurant she started with husband Alan just two years ago. The Market Street Restaurant has not only made a real impact but has also created the benchmark for new eateries. Market Street, where you can only eat if you previously book, deserves the highest acolades - we give it our only 5 wings award in our reviews... but when you are at the top it is easy to slip... not Market Street as it goes from success to success by word or mouth and local advertising that supports local projects, like The New Angel.

We think Alison deserves to win. The Market Street website - www.marketstrestaurant.net is another little project that Alison is working on... check it out and if you haven't tried Market Street it is time you did!

Joan and Jan at Celebrations Card & Gift Shop in Calle San Pancracio extend their normal range with a new INSTORE Katie's Dress Agency - set to open on Wednesday 16th May. There will be a wide range of Ladies clothing, shoes and fashion accessories. For more information call JAN on 650 725 618

We have more new businesses opening every day here in the pueblo... Spiral the new Peluqueria Unisex salon joins the most prolific sector, we now have 15 Hairdressers...

The New SUPERMERCADO MERCA-ECO is taking shape on The Ronda and is set to have Health Foods and Organic Products. We will be bringing you more information when we have see the owner and product list.

CUCU - The corner tienda behind the Health Centre is under new management and has a great range of Children's Clothing and Shoes.

Have you all met Adrian and Trish from The Post Room in SMdS?
Well this busy couple have premises close to and signposted from the Church Square and there they offer a wide range of services including PO Boxes, which...because of sheer reliability...are even used by local Spanish Businesses and of course many residents in the outlying urbanisations... internet access, telephone booths for cheap worldwide calls, laptop connections, a good range of greeting cards, stationery and book exchange. What really makes The Post Room are Adrian and Trish themselves who are always available to lend a helping hand! And we extend our thanks to them for understanding and supporting this website...more

STYLISME MODA opens it's new stylish shop in Calle Pablo Picasso, close to the Ring Road and Gloria Fuertes School.

The new Fashion Shop brings a new look to the pueblo with an imaginative window display, which we thought went rather well with the Archangel image, mannequins with great big wings

STYLISME was one of the recent sponsors for the Asociación Española contra el Cáncer Fashon Show...the shop definitely looks pretty STYLISME! and we wish them success in their new venture.

You can check out the details in our trade directory
Lavandería San Miguel opens it's new premises for laundry and dry cleaning on Avda Noroeste - that's the ring road. Señora Margarita Sánchez Sánchez opens from Lunes/Monday to Viernes/Friday 10am - 2pm & 5.30pm - 9pm and is closed Sábado/Domingo Saturday/Sunday. Mobile 635 503 616

Lavandería San Miguel has its old premises in the Cave Area at Calle Juan Mateo Box, 2  - tel: 965 720 638

Meet Paul, Kevin and Lucas of Autos Direct, the New Quality Second Hand Car Dealership opposite the Policía Local SMdS.

Autos Direct opened on 6 March with a special range of selected cars for the SMdS market. The Company has the backup of their Auto Finder CB website but we are sure this dominant location will attract a good passing trade of new clients.
Associates, the magazine Auto Finder CB, have checked out the region and they tell us SMdS is judged as the ‘Most-Up-and-Coming’ Pueblo in the Vega Baja for business potential…something we keep saying. Good luck guys! And we'll have all their details on our Trade Directory under Motor Dealers.

We always give credit where it is due on this website and as more than just the few new local businesses have wished to express their thanks to local Inmobiliaria - Estate Agents Casas & Castles we'll do just that! We previously featured their move to new offices in the very centre of town at Plaza Juan Carlos.

Besides finding suitable premises for new clients they have arranged for local builders to complete work and they have provided clients with the advice required to get through the necessary procedures required when opening a new business. This is not, in case you ask, a paid advertisement!

Haircut Now Sir! a new experience for the Gentlemen... opens in Calle San Miguel.. Also pictured is the previous Haircut Now Sir! in Fakenham, Norfolk from whence hale proprietor Dean Leathers and Julie. Dean chose SMdS because he thought it had the same village feel as Fakenham where he had his last shop...well not quite mate!

So finally we have somewhere to hear those immortal words, "Anything for the weekend Sir!"

Conozca con Francisco Veracruz, Manuel Ruiz y Incarna Castejon de Mater San de Exposición y Oficina nueva en Calle 19 de abril. Por todas materiales de contrucción, Pavimentos y Azulejos. They are pleased to help you with building materials for any size of construction. Gracias Mater San

This is the logo of the AECO -Asociacion de Empresarios y Comerciantes - our Local Trade Association with whom we are working closely. Below we summarize businesses we have featured on this page previously. This page is in our 'top five' of pages visited...if you have a new business tell us...and if you find the services you need as a consumer on this website - tell the business you found them here!

We featured Alan Campbell, a Belfast Man, who opened his new Fitness Centre - Gymnasium in Calle Tomas Perez Castano, above Bar Orbita. He is pictured with Alan are Pedro Pascual Gracia and Juan de Díos - both lads are in The Musical Union de San Miguel de Salinas.

From rowing, cycling and walking machines to 'Lat Pec', 'Pec Dec' 'Leg Curl' and loose weights...and, most importantly, fully supervised fitness training regimes... he's your man.

The Gym is open from 9am to 10pm and he invites monthly, quarterly and annum membership. If you are a bit put off by the full training bit...why not try the slightly more sympathetic start to 'getting fit' by joining one of Alan's Aerobic Groups at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can call Alan on 680 590 345 for more details.

We welcomed Finns Anne Potila and Tapio Oksanen with another new 'foreign' business Muebles Elegantes S.L. in their new stylish showroom in Calle Calvario, at the bottom of 'Market Street'. They have a very stylish range of quality furniture and will welcome you with a smile and almost any language you choose.

We love happy faces on this website and we introduced you to Manager Manuel Arenas, Assistant Manager Alicia Rico Forte and Cashier Mar of Caixa Catalunya in Calle 19 de abril. This is Spain's third largest savings bank and they are more than aware of the need to provide quality service for the increasing population of foreign residents to the town. Check out  www.caixacatalunya.es
Caixa Catalunya is active in supporting local youth sponsorship particularly in information technology as well as cultural and heritage projects and their details can be found in our trade directory and it's another e-com-smds business.

Alison and Alan opened Market Street Restaurant on Friday 18th November and since then they have been awarded our first 5 wings award after great efforts and 'quality' from the whole team.
A new set of standards for 'dining in the pueblo' have been established and you will now have to 'book to dine': in our restaurant review you'll get a few tasters of what you have in store. We thought we'd feature the boys in the 'engine room'!

The Second Hand Warehouse opened early in November in La Plaza de la Constitution opposite The Nut House. Mark is that invaluable 'man with a van', whilst Janice organises the sizeable premises where they sell used furniture, electrical goods, video games and many different household items.  They are able to offer that occasionally necessary house-clearing service with delivery or collection of almost any item. The shop is open until 6pm each day and they can be contacted on 966 723 769 (shop) Mobiles 617 161 730 & 665 179 499.

Cornish Pride had a Grand Opening today 19 October and Councillor for Tourism - Inma Hernández came to meet Nick and his team of helpers. She said she had tried Cornish Pasties when she made a visit to England in May and she knew they would be popular.
Inma Hernández also added that she was pleased to see new businesses opening and she wished everyone success in the venture. The new Take-away was full for most of the morning as Market visitors made their way to Calle 19 de Abril for a true taste of Cornish Pride.

We featured the new warehouse of Khoronea Tiles on the Bigastro Road and the 'cash and carry' prices for ceramic tiles (including some good deals from 3.30 euros per sq/m.), paving and all the ancillary items including wheelbarrows and tools. Staff are friendly and helpful and they have a good range to choose from for any size of job.

Miguel, the boss, told us that his Spanish clients know what he sells through word of mouth and he has aimed his signage for the foreigners.

Many who undertake those DIY jobs require the cash and carry range of ceramic and stone tiles and accessories that he stocks. He also sells wheelbarrows, cement mixers and tools. We liked his helpful attitude and his range of tiles at very reasonable prices.

San Miguel de Salinas saw a first in Spain as Our Pampered People's Emporium announced the opening of their fully accredited Hair & Beauty Academy in Calle Joaquin Martinez.
Debbie and David Clennell have faced may obstacles along the way but have finally obtained that valuable accreditation that will enable them to run training courses for NVQ 1, 2 & 3 in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy with fully qualified NVQ Tutors. We have a feature on our Education Page.

For enrolment information call Debbie on (+34) 699 732 493 or Sandra on (+34) 616 889 135. or you could email

Kim Chenery opened another new business in August 2005 - The Tone Zone in Calle Galant Delgado just up the hill from the Church Square. This sound business idea was supported by good investment in 6 toning tables that provide different passive exercise regimes.

The toning tables, which are widely used in gymnasiums, beauty salons, health spas and wellness centres also have application for pain management and sports injuries. Besides these health and fitness issues a regular session will help lose a few inches and pounds...centimeters and kilos that is! The Tone Zone has proved a great success and is a valuable asset to this business sector.

Small independent Inmobiliaria - Estate Agent Jenann Villas S.L. at Urbanization Eagles Nest provides an individual and personal service to clients, and was one of the first businesses to acknowledge the value of this website without seeking any particular benefit. Just as this website supports the businesses of San Miguel de Salinas so do we need that acknowledgement...and our philosophy we promotes people who help us promote the town. www.jenannvillas.com - e-com-smds

QuickSave opened in the old offices of Blue Hill S.L. in Calle 19 de Abril have fast become one of the most important small supermarket in the town. Bev and Paul Wolff who, together with daughter Tanya (pictured), are eager to provide a happy smile and a source for all those popular branded goods that the English speaking residents and visitors want. Their initial concerns about the impact a QuickSave, an English-run supermarket, might have on the locals proved unfounded.

QuickSave stocks all those favourite products that satisfy the British taste at surprisingly competitive prices and if they don't have what you want they are pleased to get it.  email: bev_quicksavesanmiguel@hotmail.com

We featured Construcciones Balsan, S.C., a local Spanish building company as they moved to new offices at Calle Ruiz Caracena, 12. They undertake all types of building work, including renovations, extensions and pool construction. They join the ranks of businesses who understand the aims of this website.  Tel: 966 723 679
