Headline News 30 July 2008 - Neighbours of Villas Maria, Torrestrella and other parts of Ciudad de las Comumnicaciones are urged to attend the Council Meeting on Thursday 31st July at San Miguel Town Hall at 8.30pm when their objections to the change of use of communal land in Calle Leon to facilitate the development of the illegal business Mar Azul School will be discussed... a silent protest is planned - See also Asociacion de Vecinos Archangel press release

What a delight it is to feature one of our very very favourite pictures of SMdS as we publish the programme for The August Fair 2008.

Here's two little happy stories of the day... Val Budden is a resident of Balcón de la Costa Blanca and her next door neighbours are Spanish and have a 7 month old son David. Today he was having an English Day with his adopted Granny, as he has since birth. David will never know or be confused about whether it's a Spanish or English Day - it's just a happy day!

Luis Miguel Cartagena Ferrández said,"You speak Spanish and I will speak English" as I popped in to buy some baby plantas de lechuga for my Nieta Millie to nurture when she comes on holiday. "I learn a few words everyday" said Luis, pictured here with planta y diccionario - ¡Eso es integración!

The procession of Corpus Christi on Saturday evening  24 May 2008 - as the children bearing wheat sheaves ahead of Padre Lucas with The Holy Eucharist - Maestro D. José Navarro Roser leads The Musical Union of San Miguel de Salinas

Mollie Sheaf outside Bar Odysseia on her 'chica scooter' - she has lived in SMdS for 6yrs and now speaks fluent Spanish having been a student at I.E.S Los Alcores San Miguel's Instituto... we are all relying on students like Mollie to deal with the integration thingie...

Meet Gaynor and Lee from Hondon. They have just taken over Bargain Books our invaluable 'heart of the pueblo' bookshop, with all the papers, a very wide range of greetings cards and stationery... well almost everything. They both worked at The Albatera branch of Bargain Books and have just bought the SMdS shop and will be trading under the same name. They are both very congenial and hope to continue providing the great service that we have come to expect from Bargain Books - we wish them every success.

News Saturday 17th May 2008 - Jubilation for the whole of San Miguel de Salinas as our San Miguel Tabisam Team wins the league and Portsmouth FC wins the FA Cup Final - we need to have more neighbours in each camp...

Steve from Chimes Bar is ready for the match, and has raised money for charity, thanks the Barbers of Quesada

The May New Angel is available at most places in the pueblo including The Tourist Information Centre and also ONLINE

Maire Kalkowski - La Cueva N°4 in San Miguel's Cave Area hold an exposition in San Javier...more

Monday 12th May saw a further demonstration by protestors against The Mar Azul School. Protestors from the Vecinos de San Miguel de Salinas and those of The Vecinos from la Ciudad de las Comunicaciones, Villas María & Torrestrella were met by a counter demonstration by Mar Azul School headed by the owner Rachel Pestell and a number of employees. Heated verbal exchanges were predictable but the event was peaceful.

Back in March (Saturday 1st March & Wednesday 5th) we posed the question why demonstrate? - Demonstrations about the illegal Mar Azul School at The Town Hall as residents were becoming frustrated at the failure of The Town Hall Administration to address the issues - well it's not gone away as this will be the continuing picture as residents plan further demonstrations to continue to pressure the Administration for answers as to why it has failed to deal with the issue  ...more
The Monday Show on Radio San Miguel 'a hundred and seven point four' 107.4fm with David & Caz (It's The Barber of Quesada's birthday this week!) welcomed house guest Hari Holdsworth who is having a short break in the pueblo following her first year exams at Glasgow University where she is studying psychology... a bit too smart for Radio San Miguel eh!
On the new members pages of the website forum one emerging dislike is the increasing amount of graffiti in the pueblo - it started in the Church Square... guess why? The Manhattan Bar of course!

Well now the spray cans are coming out for every surface on the town's White Elephant development LOS INVERADEROS... imaginary prospective property buyers may never see it amongst the numerous unnecessary playgrounds... but we can.
And if you are horrified with this wall, right in the centre of the pueblo, it is an example of graffiti where the artists/perpetrators have deliberately targetted a TEMPORARY wall, and used it to celebrate their QUINTO (year at school). The messages are full of love for each other eg "os quiero" ha ha!

May 2008 - Walks this Month - The Rambling Group of La Asociación de Vecinos "San Miguel Arcángel" announce their May Event - Meet at Church Square Sunday 9.30am on 25th May 2008 - The Route: VEREDA DE DOLORES Y RAMBLA DE LA FAYONA. These are easy rambles laced with interesting facts about San Miguel de Salinas

...more on all the best walking routes around San Miguel de Salinas visit Gary’s Easy Ambles - And if you something a bit more strenuous there's a walking event this month at Torremendo Lake you could join the SUNSET SUPER WALK Challenge organised by Jenni at Casa La Pedrera - Saturday May 31st at 4pm walking the 20 kms of Embalse La Pedrera, for more info see www.casalapedrera.com
