CINECLUBPILAR CLOSES NOT ONLY FOR THE SEASON BUT MORE PERMANENTLY IN ITS CURRENT FORM...
Joy and sadness on Sunday 30th May 2010 as CINECLUBPILAR closes after 7 years. At a special party with wine and nibbles Fran, Javi & Tricia were presented with mementos by many regular club friends at the very last show.
Health & Safety issues (yes, even in Spain amigos!) with the CINECLUBPILAR premises have forced its closure at the end of another great season of films in English with Spanish subtitles and its future relies on funding to upgrade the cinema.
Moves are being made to secure CINECLUBPILAR'S future with the private owners but it will be a difficult task to complete the necessary works to make a new season possible by September.
As lovers of film, Fran and Javi have made a unique contribution in providing a great facility to bring the best of cinema to the foreign community... actually over those seven years an increasing number of local Spanish have also discovered and enjoyed the best in cinematography, with the latest Hollywood blockbusters as well as some great Independent Productions. With only one or two copies of the 'original
film with Spanish subtitles' available in the whole of Spain their achievement in a tiny backwater of the Costa Blanca is actually greater than many people realise.

Personally, I have been
to almost every film they have shown since CINECLUBPILAR was opened, and yes, it has been a CLUB where everybody knows everybody... Tricia even makes a special coffee to satisfy my exacting taste.
We all thank Fran & Javi for their contribution and wish them every success in the future. The end of an era... let's hope it won't be long before CINECLUBPILAR is entertaining us again! |

FEATURE November 2009 - If we are talking MEDIA let's celebrate
the achievement of Sanmiguelero Francisco Sáez - a world class film animator.
From a young age Francisco Sáez was always drawing and this developed into a love of comic strip and ultimately to creative animation. He studied at The School Arts in Orihuela but, whilst his particular styles in art were not always fully satisfied, he began by studying photography and worked in this field for four years. |
|
| One day, in 1995, he took
a brave and major life decision to follow his dreams.
With a folder of drawings under his arm and not quite
knowing where to start, he went to Madrid to make movie
screen animated films. |
|
Francisco knew nothing about the Spain’s Capital
but he knew that his work was good and that he
had an understanding of working with a
Storyboard, a set of illustrations displayed in
sequence to understand a story, providing an
artist’s preview of filming that brings ideas to
the movie director. |
 |
He knocked on doors and convinced Disney España to take him on and soon he would be involved in the cartoon films of Hercules and Los Tres Reyes Magos. He worked on The Cartoon Network, studied and taught at Madrid’s School of Cinema specializing in design characters and finally landed a job at Ilion Studios to make the cartoon Renderboy. His latest venture, again as part of a small and dedicated team of talented artists is Sony Pictures and Pixar’s 55 million dollar animated comedy – Planet 51, released here in Spain on 27 November 2009. |
|
|
When asked what advice he would give to any budding artists that would aspire to follow his path, Francisco Sáez, now aged 39, told www.3dwire.es, ‘Primarily patience, passion, perseverance, much base drawing (anatomy, perspective etc...) and watching film of all kinds. Important too is having an absence of ego since an idea, even when illustrated with beautiful drawings, may seem worthy but may fail when exposed to other film makers criteria… plus’, he added, ‘the ability to produce another great idea instantly’.
Once the long process of getting a film in the can is completed, beach-lover Francisco heads home to San Miguel de Salinas for a well-earned rest amongst family and friends. Congratulations - a true inspiration to wannabee
film-makers and certainly a Sanmiguelero to be proud of.
