The Commission for Festivals invites neighbours to organise Street Parties in all areas of the Municipality and will contribute sufficient beverages for this festival: please notify the Town Hall with the numbers for each party before 13 September.

The ceremony of the Coronations of the Carnival Queen and Princess for 2006 will follow including the traditional presentation of sashes to The Maids of honour. Following The Coronation there will be music from La Orquesta Mundial.

Zunächst wird die Krönung der Kinderkönigin und der Jugendkönigin 2006 im traditionellen Beisein der Ehrendamen der Gemeinde durchgeführt. Der genaue Termin wird noch mit dem ORCHESTER MUNDIAL abgesprochen.

A quick look at our main annual events here in San Miguel de Salinas.

Fiestas and Celebrations are highlights of the social calendar not only for the community but particularly for our visitors. And we know those visitors want the information...they make this page of our website the 4th most hit one...in the last week we have had visitors from as far a field as Uruguay, Philippines, and Mongolia and of course, every country in Europe, and we get as many email enquiries to match.

So whilst we can give you neither exact dates nor a definitive programme we are going to give you a run down of the main celebrations for 2006. There are two promises we can make...firstly you will always find the published programme here before anywhere else...and two, you can be sure of a great time in San Miguel de Salinas during our special events. We work closely with our Concejalía de Fiestas y Turismo Inma Hernández and she tells us," Be surprised and amazed!"

Traditionally our main events are those during Easter Week, our August Fair, The Main Fiesta and Christmas.

Easter or Semana Santa is more than just the Bank Holidays of Good Friday and Easter Monday here in Spain and consists of a number of events during Holy Week.

San Miguel de Salinas is unique amongst the towns of the Vega Baja in that we have a Local Society called The Centuria Romana and they take an important role in the re-enactment of the events celebrated in the Christian Church.

Holy Week this year started from Palm Sunday on 9 April 2006 with a traditional procession through the pueblo lead by Padre Lucas, The Mayor, Local Dignitaries and our townsfolk. During the week there were a number of processions culminating on Easter Sunday 16th April with the most colourful parade with The Bands of The Musical Union and Cornetas and Tambones of San Miguel de Salinas. We also heard The Alcores Choir in concert.

San Miguel de Salinas August Fair 2 – 6 August 2006 – A special week of events with a variety of Concerts, Late Night Parties and Spectacular Horse Shows. Most of the action takes place at The Showground, the area just out of the Town on The Campoamor Road near The Ronda and The Institute. Great music with Orchestras and Big Bands including concerts from the students of the Musical Union Summer School. We have the traditional election of our Fiesta Queens and Princesses and you can expect to see our locals parading horseback in the pueblo. It’s a weeklong party with pavilions of revellers dancing and singing into the coolness of the night. Our fiesta picture on the left will always remain one of our all time favourites.
